A wealthy publisher, Roger Lewis, manipulates women into investing in his ventures. He targets Doris King, a former showgirl, who wants to divorce her producer husband, Harry Jackson, and marry Lewis. However, Lewis has no intention of marrying her, and instead, orchestrates her murder and frames Jackson for the crime. Jackson goes into hiding, and his daughter, Linda, begins a police search for him. As pressure mounts, Jackson is driven to suicide, which frees "Biggie" Wolfe, a small-time crook, to return the stolen jewels to Johnny Rocco, a gangster.
