In World War I, the 5th Company of the 2nd Battalion, 39th Regiment, led by Captain Paul La Roche, receives new recruits, including Lieutenant Michel Denet and Private Moran. As Lt. Denet falls in love with nurse Monique La Coste, he remains unaware of her relationship with Captain La Roche. Meanwhile, Captain La Roche discovers that Private Moran is actually his long-lost father, using a false identity. The 39th Regiment is ordered to attack German lines, install a telephone in the trenches, and guide artillery fire.
