The movie is based on a collection of stories about a young boy named John Humperdink "Dink" Stover, a student at the Lawrenceville Preparatory School in 1896.

In 1896, John Humperdink "Dink" Stover, a troublesome student at the Lawrenceville Preparatory School, gets into constant trouble, earning the dislike of his classmates. However, he impresses them by standing up for himself in a fight. During the summer, he meets Miss Dolly Travers, who rejects his childish pranks, further fueling his dislike of women. Upon his return to school, Dink's behavior worsens until a teacher helps him change his perspective.
