In a medieval Nordic kingdom, King Erik forces his daughter Kristian to marry Danish Prince Frederic before her 18th birthday, fearing she'll fall under the control of the "Mountain King" of trolls if she doesn't. Instead, Kristian flees into the mountains. The king offers his daughter's hand and a royal dowry to whoever rescues her. Prince Frederic sets out with his men, but faces competition from three peasant brothers: strict eldest brother Per, gluttonous middle brother Pal, and playful but clumsy Espen.
