In modern London, a wealthy and stunning young man, Dorian Gray, falls for Sybil Vane, an aspiring actress, who briefly humanizes him. Meanwhile, he sits for a portrait by his friend Basil Hallward, but becomes disillusioned when the painting remains youthful while he grows old. After rejecting Sybil and succumbing to temptation, the painting ages, reflecting Dorian's corruption and destruction of lives, including Sybil's. As the portrait becomes increasingly hideous, Dorian remains unchanged, until he confronts the painting alongside Basil.
