Among travelers at Union Depot, a newly released prisoner and his friend find a valise containing a shaving kit, suit, and bankroll. The prisoner, Chick, transforms into a dashing gent and befriends a stranded showgirl, Ruth, who is struggling due to the Depression. Chick vows to help Ruth buy a ticket to Salt Lake City, where she has a job waiting. Meanwhile, his friend finds a wallet with a claim check, which leads to a violin case filled with cash, but unbeknownst to Chick, the money is counterfeit.
