When King Edward IV dies, his brother Richard of Gloucester plots to seize the throne. Despite the late king's two young sons being his rightful heirs, Richard orchestrates their demise and crowns himself King Richard III. As he solidifies his power, the ghosts of his victims torment him, driving him to madness and ultimately, his downfall.
