The Young Rebel background

The Young Rebel

The film explores the tumultuous early life of Miguel de Cervantes, the renowned author of "Don Quixote", in a dramatic and imaginative retelling.

A young Miguel Cervantes, son of a country doctor, boldly claims the position of private secretary to Monsignor Acquaviva, the papal envoy to King Philip II of Spain, despite the disapproval of the court's elite. When he discovers his friendship with the Ottoman general-envoy was used to delay the war, Miguel resigns and joins the Holy League's fleet. He and his brother become celebrated heroes, but their bravery goes unrewarded and they are captured by Algiers pirates, sold into slavery. Instead of accepting their fate, they lead a daring slave revolt.
