In the post-Civil War era, a former Union soldier is tasked by the Texas Governor to eliminate a group of carpetbaggers causing trouble in the region. He initially partners with Holden, only to discover that his ally is also involved in plundering the local community.

John Ashley, a former Union officer, returns to his hometown in Texas and finds a corrupt northerner, Benedict Holden, maintaining order with his armed troops. Initially, Ashley is deceived by Holden's charm, but soon discovers he is a ruthless carpetbagger, using his power to murder and steal from locals. To stop Holden's reign of terror, Ashley joins his troops to infiltrate and expose the truth.
