A grudgingly resentful, recently fired American baseball manager is tasked with teaching a team of Russian players the game, despite his initial reluctance. He faces numerous challenges, but eventually, his players show promise, and he begins to believe they might be good enough to represent the Soviet Union in the Olympics. As the team prepares to perform in America, the manager and his players discover new aspects of themselves, and the manager rediscovers something special about himself.
