During World War II, June McCarthy and Carl Cutler form an unlikely bond after their ship is sunk by an unknown submarine. Cutler, a Nazi naval officer, uses June's connections to acquire a stranded freighter, the S.S. Apache, for his import business. June unwittingly helps Cutler's plans when she asks him to contact her fiancé, Jimmy Madden, about using the Apache. Cutler kidnaps June, fearing she might discover his true identity.
