Jessica Fletcher boards a train to El Paso, Texas, and shares a table with a mysterious woman who disappears, leaving behind her purse. The case unfolds when Jessica receives a message intended for the woman, leading to an attack and a demand for "it", a term she's unfamiliar with. She's aided by a journalist and despite warnings from an FBI agent, continues to investigate, following clues to Agua Verde, where the woman is believed to reside, only to find a complex and sinister mystery unfolding.
