A gymnastics school teacher inherits a house on the Cornwall coast and discovers a mermaid, Miranda, in the basement, who is her doppelganger. While the teacher is away, Miranda takes her place on land, feigning an injury to attract the village men with the help of her friend, Nurse Carey.
