A grieving mother's life is transformed after the tragic loss of her young son, who takes his own life, leading her to dedicate herself to humanitarian causes.

A former ambassador's wife, Irene Girard, is forced to reevaluate her life after the tragic loss of her son. Feeling guilty for neglecting him, she becomes driven to help those in need. When she shelters a fugitive, she is arrested, and her husband, prioritizing social status, has her declared insane. Irene's journey takes her from one prison to another, where she grapples with the societal norms she once took for granted.
