In 1896 Montmartre, the Can-Can dance is outlawed, yet Simone's nightclub defiantly features the provocative performance daily. Her employees use their charms to persuade law enforcement officials to turn a blind eye, even attending the shows. However, Philippe Forrestier, a determined young judge, aims to put an end to the spectacle. Simone must use her cunning to win him over, but her boyfriend Francois grows increasingly uneasy with her flirtations.
