Aurora Teagarden, a librarian and President of the Real Murders Discussion Club, is asked to present at a true crime and mystery conference, where she meets Lawrenceton Police Chief Lynn Smith, who has always resented the club's involvement in murder investigations. When a murder occurs during a staged play at the conference, Ro and the Real Murders members start investigating to clear their friend, who is the lead suspect.
