In this romantic thriller, a naive American woman finds herself torn between her engagement and a passionate affair with a charming novelist in Paris, unaware that he is secretly manipulating her to get to her wealthy uncle.

Michael Trevor, a former newspaper man, runs a scandal sheet in Paris, targeting wealthy Americans who conduct secret affairs. He befriends Harold Taylor, a soft coal baron, and helps him cover up a scandalous story. Michael falls in love with Taylor's niece, Mary, but his ex-girlfriend, Irene, tries to sabotage their relationship. Michael's past as a crook is revealed, and he must decide between his love for Mary and his life of crime.
