An elderly English woman, Amy Smith, returns to India after her husband's death to search for her lost lover and return a necklace. As a young girl, Amy arrived in Madrasapattinam, India in 1945 to join her father, the governor. She meets Paritihi, a young Indian boy, and they develop a tender romance. However, Amy is forced to marry a cruel officer, Robert Ellis, appointed by her father, and must fight to be with Paritihi.
