Layla, an 18-year-old girl from Amsterdam, struggles with the increasing suspicion towards Muslims in her community. She joins a group fighting for their right to practice Islam and becomes involved in political activism. After being arrested and feeling isolated, she marries Abdel and they travel the country performing missionary work and raising funds. However, they are forced to flee to the Middle East after a police raid, and Layla is eventually faced with an impossible choice.
