King Lear, an elderly and exhausted monarch, distributes his kingdom among his daughters, prioritizing their declarations of love. When his youngest, Cordelia, refuses to flatter him in exchange for favor, he banishes her and turns to his remaining daughters, Goneril and Regan. However, they plot to take away his power. Meanwhile, the Earl of Gloucester favors his illegitimate son Edmund over his faithful son Edgar, leading to madness and tragedy for both ill-fated fathers.
