In the midst of World War II, a British officer named Michael Quinn, stationed in Asia, is recruited by Army Intelligence to learn Japanese and interrogate Japanese prisoners of war, only to find himself falling in love.

During World War II, British R.A.F. Flight Lieutenant Michael Quinn and his comrade flee Burma after a Japanese ambush, eventually reaching a British Army outpost. Quinn is sent for rest and relaxation, where he meets fellow officer Peter Munroe, who informs him they've been selected to learn Japanese for Army Intelligence.
