In post-war Germany, a Dutchman named Simon Van Halder is accused of killing a British soldier, despite being innocent. He was trying to steal penicillin for his illness, but his accomplices told him his girlfriend Anna had died, causing him to falsely confess to the murder. After being convicted and sent to prison, Simon discovers Anna is alive and realizes his accomplices lied to him.
