Forty years after his imprisonment, the notorious gravedigger Josefel Zanatas, also known as Zé do Caixão, is released by his lawyer Lucy Pontes in accordance with Brazilian law. He relocates to the slums, accompanied by his devoted followers who revere him as a god. Zé do Caixão is obsessed with finding the perfect woman to bear his children, while being tormented by the restless spirits of his victims. Meanwhile, two vigilante brothers, Captain Osvaldo Pontes and Coronel Claudiomiro from the Military Police, are hot on his trail, determined to put an end to his evil deeds.
