In May 1980, a Seoul taxi driver named Man-seob accepts an unusual offer to drive a foreign passenger to Gwangju and back before curfew for a lucrative sum. Without questioning the details, he picks up German reporter Peter and begins the journey. Despite police roadblocks, Man-seob finds a way into Gwangju, where they encounter massive protests against the government. As the situation becomes increasingly dangerous, Man-seob urges Peter to return to Seoul, but Peter ignores him, joining a university student and local taxi driver to document the events with his camera.
