King Shahdov, a monarch displaced by revolution, arrives in New York with limited funds. He turns to TV commercials to make ends meet and crosses paths with a child from communist parents, inadvertently raising suspicions about his own communist leanings. Shahdov is subsequently summoned to face a grueling hearing before McCarthy's committee.
