Young idealist David Weiss joins struggling TV network IBS. His coworkers include the shark-like Mick McClaren, airheaded Lindsay Urich, and the token black executive Joanne Walker. Weiss's boss, programming exec Paul Weffler, combines McClaren's amorality with Urich's cluelessness, making his job always threatened by both (and by Joanne).
