Gus McClain is a college professor who leads an idyllic life with a good job, loving wife, and supportive friends. One day, strange occurrences start happening in his life, causing confusion among his acquaintances about his unusual behavior. Initially attributing the changes to possible memory loss, Gus faces legal troubles when he's arrested due to evidence implicating him. When the police' evidence is circumstantial, he is released from custody. However, FBI agent Carter re-arrests him, leading to a series of killings across the country including his partner. Despite maintaining his innocence, Gus is transported and wakes up as someone resembling Booth, his twin brother. It's revealed that years ago, they were in an accident with their parents' baby dying. The woman took the baby (Booth) believing it was her own child, while another baby (Gus' twin) was believed to be hers. It seems the woman's husband was abusive towards Booth. He later became homicidal and desired to take over Gus' life, leading him to plan his death. Now, he is dying and decides to let Gus live a criminal lifestyle as if it were his own, with Gus being hunted by law enforcement. No one believes Gus' story, especially FBI agent Carter. Gus must use all his wits to prove Booth's existence before the situation becomes too dangerous for him.
