A skilled con artist named Ripley lived in New York during the 1960s when she was enlisted to start a long-term scheme involving multiple forms of deception, fraud, and unlawful activities.

1961. Tom Ripley, a petty fraudster, is hired by millionaire Herbert Greenleaf to visit his son Dickie in Italy and bring him back to New York. Dickie has squandered his inheritance on lavish, unproductive living, leading Greenleaf to believe that Ripley can persuade him to straighten up and return home. Despite initial plans, Ripley's true intentions are revealed.
