Mr. Belvedere background

Mr. Belvedere

The Fishers are a quirky American family who hire a charming English housekeeper, Rose, to take care of their home and family.

Popular 1980s sitcom "Mr. Belvedere" was based on the Gwen Davenport novel "Belvedere" and featured British butler Lynn Belvedere taking a job as a live-in nanny for the Owens family. Belvedere, who had previously worked for Winston Churchill and British royalty, recorded the family's everyday experiences in his diary to use in writing a novel. The show followed the Owens family, including sportswriter father George, law student mother Marsha, and their three children, as they navigated life in suburban Pittsburgh. Each episode ended with Belvedere writing in his journal, providing a moral and putting the events into perspective.
