A Jewish divorcée, Fran Reeves, falls in love with a contractor, Riley Douglas Martin, who is half her age. They live together with her two children from a previous marriage, a med school dropout and a high school student, in a non-traditional household. The family dynamic is complicated by the shifted generations and the fact that Riley is barely older than his step-children. Despite the challenges, the family navigates their relationships and ultimately finds true love and happiness.
