Lux, a 15-year-old foster-care veteran, embarks on a journey to become an emancipated minor, only to discover her biological parents along the way. She finds her father, Nate "Baze" Bazile, who is shocked to learn he has a daughter, and her mother, Cate Cassidy, a local radio star engaged to Ryan Thomas. A judge grants temporary custody of Lux to both Baze and Cate, instead of allowing her to become emancipated.
