Formula One, also known by its full name Formula 1 or F1, is the highest class of single-seat auto racing sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The inaugural season in 1950 established it as the premier form of racing. The "formula" refers to a set of rules that all participants must adhere to. Formula One races, or Grand Prix events, are held worldwide on purpose-built circuits and public roads.
