Mark Unwin was one of four employees of Krielsen International Oil Company who were captured by militant group MEND while working in Nigeria. His wife Claire and Alice Onuko, a Nigerian-born British-raised PR consultant, flew to Port Harcourt to meet with civil rights worker Keme, acting as go-between, who escorted them to the handover place. They found only dead bodies of Mark and his co-workers when they arrived. The next day, Claire met a journalist who revealed that her husband had been killed by the Nigerian government after being released by MEND. She also learned that he was having an affair with Angel, a prostitute whom she confronted but who fled in a car before she could speak. Alice is shocked to discover that her father made his money less than scrupulously from oil and learns that Tunde, the police chief, has leashed her into releasing Keme despite his efforts to silence her. Keme takes Alice and Claire deep into the jungle to meet MEND leader Ebi, who reveals that Mark's killers were Nigerian officers under Tunde, who staged the massacre to blame MEND. Claire does not mention this in her press statement when she returns to England. Keme continues to fight for equality in Nigeria with a new recruit, Alice.
