Set in England at the end of the War of the Roses, the story reveals that the history we know is a Tudor fabrication. Henry VII did not win the battle of Bosworth Field, but instead lost, while Richard III died in the battle. His nephew King Richard IV, who was not smothered in the Tower of London, went on to rule for several years. The story follows Richard IV's younger son Prince Edmund, who calls himself the 'Black Adder', as he, aided by his servant and Lord Percy, schemes his way to power.
