The movie is based on a novel by Dominick Dunne and revolves around the tumultuous affair between Jules, a wealthy heir, and his mistress Vicki, whom he has kept for 18 years. When Jules is diagnosed with cancer, his wife Betsy, who is aware of the affair, demands an end to it. However, Vicki, now broke and desperate, threatens to reveal all of Jules' secrets and sins, which she has learned over the years.
