Joe Gardner, a successful plastics manufacturer from Seattle, is adjusting to life with his four adult children moving back in after his wife's passing. His children include Anne, a 35-year-old ex-hippie with two kids; Lindley, a 31-year-old new mother and sales representative in her father's company; Jack, a 30-year-old drifter searching for his identity; and Sam, the youngest, a preppy married to a free-spirited Kay.
