In 1947, criminologist Alan Hepditch is sent to Swyer's Harbour, Newfoundland, to investigate a series of sheep mutilations and a murder. Hepditch, a by-the-books but somewhat dimwitted and squeamish individual, has thirty-six hours to solve the case before his replacements arrive. As he digs deeper, he uncovers secrets among the locals, including the postmistress, the doctor and his wife, the war veteran, the young boy who found the body, and the pastor. With misinformation spreading about his own sexual deviance, Hepditch's life may be in danger as he gathers the suspects together to piece together the complete story.
