In 1975, Beirut is torn apart by civil war, with the city divided along religious lines. Tarek, a high school student, spends his days making Super 8 movies with his friend Omar, while exploring the war-torn city. As the violence escalates, Tarek's family is torn apart by differing opinions on whether to leave the city. He finds solace in May, a Christian orphan who lives in his building, and the two grow closer. After a chance encounter with a legendary brothel, Tarek takes May and Omar on a journey through the war-torn Olive Quarter, using May's underwear as a white flag to ensure their safe passage. As the war rages on, Tarek's family is forced to confront the harsh realities of their situation, and Tarek must come to terms with the devastating consequences of growing up in a war zone.
