A young woman enlists the help of a talented but struggling singer to pretend to be her unwanted suitor, all in an effort to outsmart her father and be with the man she truly loves.

Ann Sothern's daughter wants to marry a man her father disapproves of, so she orchestrates a plan to win his approval. She hires an actor to play a pretentious French count, then pretends to fall for him in front of her father, hoping to persuade him that her original choice is better.
