The story follows Tuya, a determined wife, as she takes on the responsibility of providing for her family after her husband Bater loses his legs due to desertification in Inner Mongolia. Despite her own physical struggles, Tuya decides to divorce Bater so she can find a better life. However, she sets conditions for her new husband, requiring him to care for Bater, their children, and their struggling herding land.
