The Weaver Brothers and Elviry leave their Ozark home to start a truck-farming business in Pasadena, California. They take in migrant youths, feed and employ them, causing tension with their wealthy neighbor. The film follows the blossoming romances between a migrant boy named Sock and a girl named Pansy, and between a probation officer and the neighbor's daughter. The story culminates with the migrant boys winning first prize in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade with a float they designed and built using flowers from their farm.
