In a Kurdish refugee camp on the Iraqi-Turkish border, Satellite, a young boy, leads a group of kids who collect and sell undetonated American minefields to make a living. He also helps the villagers by installing antennae to stay informed about the impending American invasion. When a local leader asks Satellite to translate Fox News, he takes on the task despite his limited English skills. The arrival of Agrin, a traumatized orphan, and her armless brother Hengov, as well as a blind toddler named Riga, shakes Satellite's life. He falls in love with Agrin, but she is haunted by a traumatic experience in her past, including the murder of her parents and her own rape.
