In the midst of a once-luxurious Cairo building, a complex web of relationships and conflicts unfolds. An aging libertine, Zika, clashes with his sister, while a man secretly takes a second wife to satisfy his desires within religious constraints. Meanwhile, a poor and beautiful woman struggles to support her family with dignity, and her former fiancé turns to fundamentalism after being humiliated by the police. A gay editor also seduces and corrupts a young man from a small town. Two Coptic brothers, one a tailor and the other a factotum, scheme to acquire property. As corruption and moral decay pervade the characters' lives, European values serve as a subtle undercurrent.
