A group of Texas ranchers, led by John Rambeau, purchase a Brahma bull to improve their cattle strain. However, the bull escapes after being left unattended by Windy Lucas, causing chaos and destruction throughout the countryside. Meanwhile, Larch Keegan, a young rancher, becomes jealous of Tom Kilpatrick, a wrangler who is also vying for the affections of Cherry Lucas, Windy's adopted daughter. Larch blames Tom for the bull's escape and incites the other ranchers to shoot the bull on sight. Tom, determined to capture the bull alive, uses a wild horse named the Widow Maker to corral the beast. In the end, Tom's determination and skill ultimately lead to the bull's capture, but not before Larch's jealousy reaches a boiling point and he vows to burn down Tom's ranch house.
