Poe's fiancée, Lenore, is mistakenly declared dead and narrowly escapes being buried alive. The traumatic experience drives her to insanity. Poe, with the guidance of his friend Dr. Forrest, has her committed to Dr. Grimaldi's asylum. When Poe and Forrest visit the asylum, they become suspicious of unusual activities and decide to return at night to uncover the truth.
