The Silence of the Sea background

The Silence of the Sea

In a small French town under Nazi occupation, a elderly man and his niece are forced to share their home with a Nazi officer, Lt. Werner von Ebrennac, who has been stationed in the area.

In a small French town occupied by the Nazis, a house is commandeered for a German officer, Lt. Werner von Ebrennac, who lives with an elderly uncle and his adult niece. The uncle and niece silently protest the officer's presence by not acknowledging him, while the officer treats the situation like a guest and begins a daily routine of visiting them in the evening. During these visits, he discusses culture, national pride, and his hopes for a free and strong France. Despite their silence, the officer's visits have a profound effect on the uncle and niece, and his stay in France ultimately changes his perspective on the war.
