Wealthy judge enlists retired neurosurgeon Dr. Vollin, who's obsessed with Edgar Allan Poe, to save his daughter's life after a car accident leaves her brain damaged. Vollin successfully restores her, but becomes fixated on her, envisioning her as his "Lenore". He kidnaps her and plots to torture and murder her fiancé and father in his Poe-inspired lair, assisted by a reformed criminal he transforms into a monstrous servant.
