American military analyst Daniel Ellsberg discovers the US government's deceptions about the Vietnam War and copies top-secret documents, known as the Pentagon Papers. The Washington Post owner Kay Graham, still adjusting to taking over her late husband's business, must decide whether to back down or publish the documents, risking indictment for contempt, in order to protect the Freedom of the Press.
