A formerly top director, Harry Stone, faces financial ruin and dismissal from Hollywood after three consecutive flops. To save his career, he takes on a commercial and ridiculous movie, which he believes will be another flop. As he prepares for its release, he reflects on his life and future with his family and former wives. The film examines the turmoil a director faces with a film release, as his agent assures him of a hit, but those around him cringe at the thought of the movie.
