The movie follows the story of employees at the Sleeptite Pajama Factory, who are demanding a significant wage increase of seven-and-a-half cents per hour. The employees, led by their feisty representative Babe Williams, are determined to get what they want. However, their negotiations with shop superintendent Sid Sorokin lead to a romantic connection, causing tension between their professional and personal relationships.
